Attorney General Martha Coakley, State Representative Eugene L. oflaherty, and State Senator Joan Menard, today announced legislation to update the current manslaughter statute by increasing the penalty for corporations charged with manslaughter. Senator Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester), also attended todays announcement and expressed support for a change to the current manslaughter statute. The legislation updates MGL Chapter 265, Section 13 by increasing the maximum penalty for corporations convicted of manslaughter from $1000 to $250000. The manslaughter statute was first enacted in 1784.
